One of the problems with technology is that it Frequently gives us more Choices than we need, more options than are even helpful or useful
Not only do we have DVD, VHS, Blue Ray, and a host of other emerging technologies, but today we have online movie rentals. Having the choice to rent films online appears to be a great thing, but it also complicates things. When you're using an online movie rental, you have to plan everything in advance. You need to understand when you're likely to want to watch a movie and order it a few weeks in advance. This takes preparation.
If that weren't enough, think about the vast array of online movie rental services. Some online video rentals simply send the videos to you in the mail. With other online movie rental services, but it becomes more complicated. Some of them offer online movie downloads. You are able to download a picture from the Internet for a set fee, and then play it back on your own PC. Although it is nice to get this choice, it introduces a different set of problems. Having these online movie rental alternatives means that you'll have to set up a TV to watch VHS tapes and DVDs, and set your computer up to watch film downloads. This certainly makes laying out your living room harder!
I do use online movie rentals, but I stay with the traditional format. Maybe someday when a new standard that has high quality is adopted and becomes the technological standard for the country, I will switch to it. Until then, however, my main source for film rentals will be the movie shop. Sure, sometimes I get an online movie rental to save money, or to get a movie that isn't available at my local store, but for the most part I prefer to have the flexibility of choosing a movie when I want you.
